Bone Blanket has been working on another very raw guerilla recording style EP – possibly full album.
The songs are all recorded in one full take, and very stripped down, just guitar and voice. The point was to sort of veer away from the traditional method of layering tracks – which over time, can result in a more processed and structured sound. These are songs written directly for picking up a guitar on the spot and singing to perform to an audience – without the fuss of advanced recording software and mass amounts of editing and enhancement.
Using a Tascam Portastudio 424 MK III, a crappy Sm58 instrument mic for both vox and guitar, and Garageband, the songs have a soft tape hiss, and evoke the home recording feel. This is a call back to the original method of the way I used to record – and if it takes me more than 5 or 6 takes to nail the track… then I scrap it and move on.
